Hurts Donut in West Des Moines

This is the real deal. If you want a great donut, you go here. If you don't like donuts, but like trying something different and unique, you go here. Hurts Donut does not mess around. They have raised the bar, set the new standard and good luck going anywhere else after trying this place!This is by far the most praise I have EVER given in a review. I feel like I should get $0.01 per don't sold. LOL. I would be rich!In all honesty, I meant ever word! It's that good!

Such a cute and interesting donut shop. It's been wildly popular since it opened a little while ago. Really delicious donuts, fantastic selection, and great service. Very clean and well decorated interior. Decent prices for a specialty store.

This place has a really cool vibe, and I wanted to love it. The decor is fun, and you get to watch donuts being made while you wait in line. And there probably will be a line. I went on a Saturday night and waited for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. I've heard it can get worse.The choices for donut flavors are seemingly endless. Two giant cases full of options, most of which have fun names like Homer Simpson or Cookie Monster or ET. And they look fun, too.Unfortunately for me, the donuts let me down when it comes to taste, where it really matters. The donut base was fine...not great but not bad. Pretty standard cake donuts and yeast donuts. But the ones with icing had way too much icing for my personal tastes and became cloying. And most of the donut flavors have icing.I'd probably go back and just be super careful about what I select. Not ready to give up on this place yet. I want to like it for the name alone... Hurts Donut.

Hurts donuts is worth the drive. It seems like most donut places are racing to the bottom to make the cheapest donuts possible. This place focuses on quality and makes very dense delicious donuts. You pick up a box of them and are like "Damn, these are heavy donuts."

I came in on a Sunday morning with 5 kids. I let all the kids pick they're own 2 donuts. It took awhile for everyone to decide. The staff was very patient. The donuts were amazing by the way. Kids were happy!!

Outstanding donuts, great place to hang out and have breakfast. One of two are enough due to the sweetness, the cinnamon rolls are enough to feed a family of four!

It's been almost 3 years since Hurts Donut open the West Des Moines location, and I'm so glad that it's not as busy as it was when it first opened. Prices are quite a bit higher than other donut shops, but these are really fancy and large donuts, so the price is well justified. There are so many donuts to choose from, the hardest part about visiting Hurts is deciding on what to get. My favorite is the maple bacon bar. This salty and sweet donut is so uniquely American and probably the best representation of why we have an obesity crisis. Hurts also sell plenty of fluids to help wash down your donuts too. Now that the ridiculous crowded lines have gone away, I can confidently recommend Hurts as the best donut shop for the Des Moines area.

Average donuts with a lot of decoration, in my opinion. Very kid friendly but not a lot to offer in terms of refined textures and flavors. My kids enjoyed it though.

WOW SO GLAD WE STOPPED HERE! Delish!! We bought a dozen different fun and tastey donuts for 16.00. That's fair! Lots of variety!

If I had the money, I'd open one of these in my city. This is a fantastically different donut shop. Forget glazed and cream filled long johns, try a captain crunch covered or maple bacon long johns. The donuts have fun names like, the Homer, that has pink frosting and sprinkles, and it looks just like the Simpson's. If you haven't already, you really should make this a priority. Worth it.

Excellent selection of sweets/donuts to satisfy any appetite at any hour of the day! Good service and everything was fresh and tasty during our most recent visit.

Great donuts... Unusual flavors...Many great plain glazed as well. The coffee is wonderful... but VERY HOT so be careful although they do have an ambulance!!! Lol

Cool vibes in this ambiance are outshined by fantastic donuts with exciting variety. A great place for a family to have fun or the casual donutier to enjoy himself or herself. Excellent coffee as well.

They look so yummy - lots of variety. Pretty good. We got 8 different ones to try out.y favorite part was the doughnut itself. I wanted to like it more than I actually did. It was recommended to us by a local and seemed to be popular with the locals. Several people came and went in the short time we were there. Reminded me of a place in downtown Portland we went to once.

Always a fun place to go and so many choices! They are open 365 days a year and 24/7. The donuts and the service are great!

Slow service, only one person working on a Saturday morning. Terrible coffee that was very expensive. Pricey donuts as well. Would rather go elsewhere.

So many options of crazy mixed flavors! They are delicious! Friendly staff! Prices are not that bad for the size of these treats!!!

I had to retract my review because I was kind of dissapointed with how all the staff don't wear masks I really hope there's a change. I did enjoy my cinnamon roll but I would hate to see any of the staff getting sick of others not wearing masks.

There's a reason why my top pregnancy craving is for Hurt's. Absolutely the best sweet treat. Our baby may come out half lemon donut, but at least I'm one happy mama. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being open at all hours! My husband will be seeing you soon.

Love that this place is open 24hours! The donuts were fabulous and not dry at all. My littles has a hard time deciding which one to choose.

The donut holes literally melt in your mouth. Scoop good!

I’ve eaten A LOT of donuts in my life. And the apple pie donut from here was the BEST donut I have EVER… I mean EVER had!!! The donuts here are so beautiful and unique it was like heaven walking in here. They had so many unique creations such as almod joy, Oreo mint with Andes candy, Twix, Strawberry Cheesecake, Bubblegum, Peanut Butter Oreo, Bart Simpson, German Chocolate, and so much more! I got the recommendation from a local, and I’m SO glad! I am from Minneapolis, and there have been times where i’ve just wanted to make the drive to come back here. But of course, that would be crazy right? Well if you see me back there again, you’ll know what choice I made. Also super random, but the parking and location of the area…. PERFECT. Was there on Sunday, January 19th in the afternoon around 3:30. Tons of variety and no wait. It was hard to choose because there were so many to choose from. I got the S'mores donut and it tasted very fresh.

Great for teens and young people that need a sugar fix... actually the donut itself was pretty great dough, just disappointed at them not having the donut that was part of their logo, a chocolate glazed ... also they don’t fill their long johns when asked about this, they said sometimes they do sometimes they don’t... 🤷‍♂️

The name is true but in a good way! The donuts are so good but too many can hurt. Very friendly staff and answered many questions. The pricing I thought was fair. Many selections to pick from as well as good drinks to chose. They have seating there or you can take your food and leave. Clean store and very well kept.

So so so good. We were in town for a show and ended up stopping into Hurts Donut both days of our stay. The donuts are beyond delicious, the staff is friendly and engaging, and the coffee was better than a popular nearby chain's. I couldn't give a higher recommendation! We even brought home a "dirty dozen" to thank our babysitters and share with our kids.

This place is awesome. The first time I ever came to Des Moines, this was the first place I got breakfast. Can't wait to come back in May!
